Amino Acid Therapy

Using the protein building blocks of neurotransmitters to support brain function—on their own, alongside medication, or during a taper.

Amino acid therapy utilizes the protein building blocks of neurotransmitters to provide the brain what it needs to function optimally. Amino acids work on targets similar to medications but do not carry the same concerns about dependency or withdrawal, and have a much lower side effect profile. Amino acids such as L-tryptophan, tyrosine and phenylalanine can be utilized on their own to relieve psychiatric symptoms or in conjunction with psychiatric medications. They are also a helpful adjunct when tapering off medications.

Targeted mineral, vitamin, essential fatty acid and other supplements can be effective in addressing deficiencies, heavy metal toxicities and in providing the brain and body with the raw materials it needs to function optimally in the long-term. This practice takes an active stance against over supplementation and recommends targeted, highly effective supplements only when they have an important role to play in a personalized plan.
