Hormones and Mental Health

How hormonal changes and imbalances can influence mood, anxiety, and other mental health symptoms.

Hormonal fluctuations—including those related to the menstrual cycle, perimenopause and menopause, thyroid function, and other endocrine factors—can have a meaningful impact on mood, anxiety, sleep, and cognitive function. These changes are sometimes overlooked in standard psychiatric evaluations.

When clinically appropriate, hormonal factors are considered as part of a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, including a discussion of when additional lab testing or referral may be helpful in understanding what’s contributing to your symptoms.
