Light and Circadian Rhythm

Practical tools for light timing, sleep consistency, and daily rhythm as part of a lifestyle medicine approach.

Sleep, light exposure, and daily rhythm all play an important role in brain health and function. As part of a lifestyle medicine approach to psychiatric care, supporting a consistent, well-regulated circadian rhythm—through morning light exposure, consistent sleep and wake times, and mindful use of light in the evening—can be a helpful complement to other treatment.

These same principles also inform the use of light therapy and photobiomodulation devices, which are discussed further under Interventions.
